Pamukkale Tour from Alanya

Alanya already owns half of the Cleopatra story: the famous beach below the castle rock carries her name, and locals will happily tell you the queen swam here. Pamukkale holds the other half — the Cleopatra Antique Pool, a warm spring above the white terraces where fallen marble columns lie under the water. This day trip connects the two. You leave the beach that borrows her name in the early morning and, by the middle of the day, you can swim over Roman ruins in the pool that borrows it too. The Cotton Castle lies roughly 365 km from Alanya, about a 4.5–5 hour drive each way across the Taurus mountains, and the tour is engineered so that distance works for you rather than against you.

The shape of the day is deliberately generous. A coach collects you at your hotel — Alanya sits in the heart of our pickup map, and the exact time for your hotel is confirmed with your booking — then breakfast is served while the road climbs inland toward Denizli. At the site you step out of your shoes and wade through the shallow, warm pools of the travertine terraces; barefoot is the rule that protects the white calcite, and no photograph prepares you for how bright the hillside really is. Above the terraces your licensed guide walks you through Hierapolis, the Greco-Roman spa city with its hillside theatre and sprawling necropolis. Terraces and ruins together form one UNESCO World Heritage Site — a rare mixed listing, on the list since 1988, honoured for nature and culture at once.

Then comes the moment Alanya guests grin at: the optional swim in the Cleopatra Pool itself, among the submerged column drums. It runs on its own ticket, bought at the pool entrance, and nobody is obliged — plenty of guests spend that free hour wandering the ruins instead. Lunch is a sit-down meal at a restaurant near the site, and dinner is served on the return leg, so the long ride home ends with a full table rather than a petrol-station sandwich. Drinks at the meals are the one thing you settle yourself.

Now the numbers, which we keep unusually simple. The price is €50 per person, flat, from every Alanya hotel — the same figure charged at every pickup point on our coast, whether you stay under the castle or out by the harbour. Everyone aged 4 and up pays it; infants 0–3 ride free. It covers the coach, the licensed guide, travel insurance and all three meals. What it deliberately leaves out are the entrance tickets: gate prices are set by the site administration and move with the seasons, so you pay the genuine official tariff at the ticket office and not our guess at it. Depending on season and operations, a stop at Karahayıt's red springs or at Lake Salda may be added — treat either as a bonus, never a promise. Door to door the day runs roughly 13–14 hours.
